July is a heatwave...of performance!
Night Keeper July 23 at Mabou Mines; All the Time in the World July 26 at Catch
Dear ThinAar Studio Subscriber:
I hope this current hellscape finds you well.
Below are two very soon performances of mine, where I’d love to see you.
JULY 23 NIGHT KEEPER: CONCERT VERSION
AT MABOU MINES/ReVENUE
8:30PM Sliding Scale Tickets Here

Night Keeper is a performance about insomnia as urban communion. It’s a rumble and hush, a prayer and a flutter. Look out the window at the other people awake. Let memory follow the light across the ceiling.
First it was a show at The Chocolate Factory, then it became an album on Hallow Ground Records (available in vinyl and digital).
Now the piece is a concert performed by the amazing Jehan O Young and Norman Westberg.
Mabou Mines is collaborating with ReVenue to present artists’ work from now into August. We’ll be in their lovely theater (with mechanical blinds) July 23 only, before Norman goes off on tour with SWANS and Jehan continues completely sublimating every stage she sets foot on.
ALSO: Merch Table: we will have records available for purchase at the show!
JULY 26 - ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD: IN PROGRESS
PLAYTIME AT CATCH UPSTATE, AT PS21
All the Time in the World is a new piece that makes social media into a card game that is also a performance script. Come learn to play!
Catch is the scenest of series in the metaphoric downtown performance scene.
We are two great tastes that go great together, this time enveloped by the upstate performance space PS21.
See our splendid new card deck designed by the stupendous Nancy Nowacek, and partake in the work of several artists extraordinaire, who are on the same bill!
Bask in the glow of the Hudson Valley as it gentrifies before your eyes!
Be captured by our snark!
Social media feels both decisive and vapid. So many posts - whose substance I generally agree with - feel like a person (or maybe me) laboring to express just the right image or phrase so that their rightness will help us see the light. And then it’s gone. I find myself both turned off to post - like posting or not posting are both exercises in vanity RN - but I’m also stuck scrolling more than before because there is so much.
Instagram makes me feel like life is supposed to be bigger than it is, even as it concentrates my eyes on smaller space.
This piece is going to be a small-scale sharing. Social media for analog humans.
(ASIDE: I’m not actually a big game person - by that I mean I am not a hunter of big game, nor am I a big players of “games.”
…but I find that exploring a form I’m not familiar with, and finding the performances inherent in it, is a way to spark my own and others’ curiosities.
Come test the odds and play your luck at feeling.)
Continuing Adventures of the Shazam playlist!
Don’t Forget: Fuck Spotify
Every time I send out an email, I add a couple songs from my ongoing Shazam playlist - music I overhear somewhere - some embarrassing, some profound, some both - to share with you the reader so you can go on your own listening tour.
A Calf Born in Winter, by Khruangbin - heard in a loud bar in Brooklyn
Praise You, by Fatboy Slim - heard in a coffee shop in Manhattan
